Change

Change is usually thrust upon us. I don’t think I look for it or openly receive it but for some reason I often hang out in the same room with it. Usually I turn my back on it, maybe take a peek in its direction, quickly look away, but it creeps up on me. What I have noticed about change is that it usually sidles up slowly, inching oh so carefully as if I won’t notice, and then suddenly it is standing on my toes and I have no choice but to notice and embrace it. I remind myself not

Long-time board member Rick Schaler, MD knows I worry, and one of the ways he volunteers is to bring humor into my life. His wisdom rings true for so many of us. “Keep doing the good work, and let someone else worry. Maybe taking on an extra volunteer would help. You can hand her a list of your concerns every morning, and she can be tasked to worry about them all day long, and perhaps even lose a little sleep for you. Presto! you are off the hook. Obsess About Success

A Week in the Life of an Executive Director

Gratitude

Gratitude: It is what keeps me going.
Last week a patient thanked us for getting her a much needed eye surgery. This week a patient thanked us for treating her so well in the clinic. Today I thanked a volunteer that touched my life ever so gently and shifted our course as an organization. Patience, Persistence, Perseverance

training our clinical staff in the use of our new electronic health record,
going “live” with new software to manage our network of 900 providers and program patients,

Offering a Shelter for Those who Need Us

Last week, I had these opportunities to see how we offer shelter:
I spent time with the family of a long-time volunteer whom I adore and miss dearly since she moved out of state. Her family is honoring her with a financial gift to Doctors Care. What a wonderful surprise!
