Swimming Safety
Friday, June 14, 2013
Spring has finally come and summer is right around the corner. Swimming safety is very important and should be on your mind!
8 out of 10 drowning victims are over the age of 14 but 1-4 year olds still have the highest drowning rates (percentage-wise for their age group) according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is always important to know about swimming safety. If swimming safety is not applied it can result in a lifelong injury or even death. Whether it is at a s

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
- Winston Churchill
There are plenty of old sayings about how everyone and everything is connected - the ripple in a pond effect…web of life, etc. Why are there so many well known sayings on this subject and why have they been around for as long as they have? It’s because there is truth to them.
Every entity – person, organization, corporation – plays a role within at least

Outdoor Safety Tips for Your Family
Friday, March 29, 2013
I write this on a beautiful sunny day; the temperature is 60 degrees and I just heard an ice cream truck driving through my neighborhood. Although I cannot promise that winter is over or we won't see any more snow in the coming weeks, there are many signs that spring is coming. As we look forward to warmer weather and start spending more time outdoors, here are some safety tips for you and your family:
Teach your child how to swim. Supervise your child while swimming. Never swim al

Looking Outside of the Box...And Into the CAJA
Friday, March 08, 2013
I recently returned from a medical mission trip with Common Ground International, an organization that provides medical and language immersion in Costa Rica for medical, nursing and pharmacy students and working professionals. My role as a preceptor was to assist the coordinators with oversight of the medical aspects of the volunteer work we provided. Another element which was equally as important as teaching medicine was raising awareness of the need for culturally sensitive and responsib

Boomers, Health Care and the Changin' Times
Tuesday, February 05, 2013
If there’s one overriding concern for most Americans in 2013 it’s a worry about health care coverage. Simply put, most of us either wonder, “Where can I go to get what I need?” or “ How am I going to pay for it?” Not many of us are convinced we have the answers.
Health care issues comprise much of the news coverage. Almost daily a newspaper headline or an online news update decries increases in cost, lessening of benefits, and new federal and state l

A Snapshot
Monday, January 07, 2013
How do I pick one moment in time during 2012 that shifted my perspective for Doctors Care? Is it fair to just pick one? I wish I could quickly survey each person that spends time within these walls and get their snapshot of one event highlight from the past year. Was it a patient that touched your life, a funny story shared between staff, or a newly learned skill that changed the way you do your job? All those things happened for me. But if I only get to pick one, it was the day we decided t

PA Student Thank-You
Monday, December 31, 2012
I recently received this letter from a former PA student and wanted to share with all of you:
Dear Bebe,
I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for my time as a student at Doctors Care. When I took a tour last year I thought to myself that this would be a phenomenal site to rotate at as a student. I was right! There are just so many great things about Doctors Care that made it a valuable experience for me.
In my one month here, I got to know some very amazing peopl

Holiday Wish List
Monday, December 10, 2012
Remember as children, the joy and anticipation that came from compiling wish lists of the latest “things” that were so vital to our happiness? While we hope the child-like joy of the holiday season never fades; over the years wish lists often evolve to less material considerations and more altruistic desires. Here, for example, are a few items on Doctors Care's wish list this year:
1. We wish our patients overall good health, with more routine, well-visits to our clinic.

How to Prepare For Flu Season
Monday, October 29, 2012
The weather is changing, and along with trick-or-treaters, pumpkins and turkeys, it’s bringing a less welcome tradition: flu season! Just as we break out our parkas and boots, we need to re-establish healthy habits to protect our families from the flu. Here are some strategies to arm ourselves against illness this year:
1. Wash hands often! Just regular soap and water will do the trick. Scrub for 20 seconds, or the time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice.
2. Car

Storytelling With Doctors Care - Jamie's Story
Wednesday, October 24, 2012
Imagine being a young, vibrant individual who suddenly had a tragic accident. Waking up in a hospital, Jamie (pseudonym) realized that the recovery ahead would be long. Unfortunately, with no health insurance and no recourse possible through auto insurance, fear began to build. The hospital bills were overwhelming, and the road to healing would only cause more financial distress. Based on the recommendation of the hospital, Jamie contacted Doctors Care.
After filling out the Doctors Car
