A Wonderful Learning Experience

Friday, April 05, 2013
I am currently in my last semester at Regis University pursuing my Masters of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner and have been granted the exceptional opportunity to spend the last two months at the Doctors Care Clinic. My time at Doctors Care has been the best clinical learning experience I have had during my academic career. Doctors Care’s goals and mission allow for optimal learning as I have been exposed to a such diverse patient population. Exposure to such a rich and v

Looking Outside of the Box...And Into the CAJA

Friday, March 08, 2013
I recently returned from a medical mission trip with Common Ground International, an organization that provides medical and language immersion in Costa Rica for medical, nursing and pharmacy students and working professionals. My role as a preceptor was to assist the coordinators with oversight of the medical aspects of the volunteer work we provided. Another element which was equally as important as teaching medicine was raising awareness of the need for culturally sensitive and responsib

Obsess About Success

Friday, February 01, 2013
I do this most of the time. I do this when looking back on the past 18 months, reflecting on the move into our new facility. I do this when I think about our transition to electronic health records. I do this when I think about our many programmatic achievements, integration of behavioral health service, and growth in our physician network; but most of all when I speak with patients who thank Doctors Care for changing their lives for the better. I do this as I look back on my 15 years at

A Snapshot

Monday, January 07, 2013
How do I pick one moment in time during 2012 that shifted my perspective for Doctors Care? Is it fair to just pick one? I wish I could quickly survey each person that spends time within these walls and get their snapshot of one event highlight from the past year. Was it a patient that touched your life, a funny story shared between staff, or a newly learned skill that changed the way you do your job? All those things happened for me. But if I only get to pick one, it was the day we decided t

Values

Friday, January 04, 2013
Passion, Compassion, Social Responsibility I have been involved with Doctors Care for about eight weeks as the Physician Recruiter for the Sliding Fee Scale program. What I have seen and experienced in this short period of time is truly remarkable in regards to how Passion, Compassion and Social Responsibility work hand in hand to successfully provide much needed quality health care services to an underserved population in our own community. PASSION is what I see every day in the

PA Student Thank-You

Monday, December 31, 2012
I recently received this letter from a former PA student and wanted to share with all of you: Dear Bebe, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for my time as a student at Doctors Care. When I took a tour last year I thought to myself that this would be a phenomenal site to rotate at as a student. I was right! There are just so many great things about Doctors Care that made it a valuable experience for me. In my one month here, I got to know some very amazing peopl

Storytelling With Doctors Care - Lisa's Story

Friday, November 30, 2012
As a Medical Assistant at Doctors Care, I come across many people who inspire me to continue my career in service. Lisa* is one of those people. After several visits to the Emergency Room for continuous upper right quadrant pain, Lisa was still searching for much-needed relief. In her constant struggle to find health care, her only choice was to keep returning to the ER for medical services. During her last visit she told doctors and nurses she was in so much pain she could no longer ha

A Volunteer's Perspective

Friday, August 10, 2012
Most people look forward to the weekend…time to play, relax with friends and family and perhaps kick the dog around the front porch. (Don’t call animal control…it was a joke!) But not me...I look forward to Wednesday and Thursday because those are the days I volunteer at Doctors Care. I discovered Doctors Care a few months after my husband and I moved to the area. I didn't know anyone here except my son’s family, and I wanted to get involved in something meaningful.

Poverty

Friday, August 03, 2012
Do you know what state has the fastest growing rate of childhood poverty? It’s Colorado! Denver and San Luis Counties have always had poverty issues, but the newest rising population for poverty resides right here in our suburbs. On top of that, the gap between children that achieve and children that don’t is wider than ever. If we aren’t educating these children as well as we can, is there really a chance for them to lift themselves out of poverty? If they

Random Acts of Giving

Monday, July 23, 2012
Random acts of giving are everyday occurrences at Doctors Care. And the “giving” takes form in a variety of gratifying ways. For example, volunteers, who are heavily involved in day-to-day business at Doctors Care, generously give time, experience and patience in helping staff and patients. Medical providers consistently give expert care to those in need, with added doses of compassion. Staff members are quick to give aid and cooperation to each other on difficult tasks, complicated
