Data About New Patients

Friday, April 26, 2013
Doctors Care is a part of our community and our staff love being integrated health caregivers and a family medical home to our neighbors. Since our clinic now has Electronic Health Records, we have a wealth of data for statistical analysis which allows us to discover trends about our patients. The most important piece of data to me, as the Director of Practice Management, is how new patients find us and where we could enhance our outreach efforts in the community. For instance, our c

eClinicalWorks Patient Portal

Friday, February 08, 2013
The eClinicalWorks Patient Portal lets patients communicate with their doctor and other providers, and access important information over the Internet. Soon Doctors Care will begin sending patients reminders, education materials, and lab results electronically. Since communication is a key to preventative medicine, the Patient Portal is a valuable aspect of care for our patients. Patients will be able to: • Enter medical history online • Send messages to their providers or the

Breaking into Fort Knox

Monday, June 18, 2012
My job as Database Specialist took a very fortunate turn when the organization implemented an electronic health records system last fall. The new system is so comprehensive, technical specialists (like me) were needed to train and support our providers. My job quickly changed to one of training and software assistance within the provider pod (the area where the medical providers have their desks and collaborate on medical cases.) This ensured our providers received timely support to do what they

Why Statistics Are Important and How We Do What We Do Everyday

Friday, June 15, 2012
I've always been interested in statistics, but some may wonder.... "Why are statistics important?" And to that I say: 1. At Doctors Care, statistics assist the Behavioral Health Team (BHT) understand the diversity of patients that we see. Many have challenging histories of past traumas or current substance abuse issues. Statistics put in perspective the issues Doctors Care patients face and areas the BHT can focus on to better serve their needs. 2. On a larger scale, statist

At Doctors Care, our services and programs are growing and improving all the time. Our strategic planning efforts ensure that the organization and staff are anticipating, predicting, and shaping the course of our changing future, listening carefully to our environment, and shifting and re-steering as often as needed. Why Am I Here?

Tuesday, May 01, 2012
About a year ago, I was at a point in my life that I knew I wanted to make a difference but was not sure how or where. Then I started to volunteer at Doctors Care with the hope and desire to make a positive impact in the lives of the less fortunate. I wasn’t sure how that would happen but truly believed that at the end of the day, I would know. I was not disappointed. I am now fortunate to be on a truly dynamic and thoughtful staff where I work in an environment that emphasizes

Life is like ... a box of SaranTM Wrap?

Friday, October 28, 2011
Recently, there has been a lot going on here at Doctors Care. Major software implementations, new staff hired, golf tournament fundraisers, open houses and daily tours have come together to create one “moving and shaking” atmosphere. Things are busy all day every day. And what does it remind me of? SaranTM Wrap. You may think I am crazy, but give me a few more seconds to tie this together for you. Imagine taking a piece of SaranTM Wrap off of your favorite dish in

Patience, Persistence, Perseverance

Thursday, September 22, 2011
Wow, these three words hit home for me right now. If you come inside Doctors Care, you’ll find us learning new things as we are busy with: training our clinical staff in the use of our new electronic health record, going “live” with new software to manage our network of 900 providers and program patients, integrating new staff and volunteers, and raising capital funds for our new location These activities are important pieces of the puzzle that allow us

Using IT For Good

Thursday, August 11, 2011
At Doctors Care, it is evident in everything that we do that the patient truly comes first. All the way through the ranks, each position is constantly challenged to rethink how we do what we do, and ultimately, how we can make the patient experience a better one. This is even true in the Information Technology (IT) Department. My name is Jeff, and I am the IT Manager here. Although making things work the way that they should is very important, my six years with Doctors Care has tau

What is “HIT”?

Friday, July 15, 2011
HIT, or Health Information Technology, is a blanket term for many types of technology and software that are used in the health care and insurance industries. For Doctors Care, HIT refers specifically to two new software systems: eClinicalWorks and Plexis Care Management software. In the near future, eClinicalWorks will serve as the electronic medical record (EMR) for clinic patients. This software will store patient demographic information (such as name and address), our provider sch
