Sharon Fisher, Volunteer Coordinator for Doctors Care, organized a wonderful volunteer appreciation celebration last week. Staff brought in a pot-luck lunch as a way to say thanks to all those who make our work possible. Dr. VanderArk gave us all a reminder about where we've been and how far we've come. And Sharon ensured that the whole event went off without a hitch, and that every volunteer received a small token of our appreciation.

I would like to talk about volunteers that come with full arms! What do they have in their arms, you ask? Blankets, quilts, hats and more.
We are very thankful to the ladies at the Englewood Elks, Mrs. McDonald and Lila for their recent gifts. Volunteers give a very special part of themselves no matter what they do. 2012 Nears a Close!

This year has just flown by. I thought it appropriate to end it with a thought about the thank you notes we have received from patients; many letting us know that if Doctors Care were not here and able to help them, they wouldn't be on their road to recovery.

It’s that time of year where we all start to get a case of “the gratefuls.” The truth is I wish it didn’t take a holiday to remind us of how much we all have to be grateful for. Many of us have our own personal safety-net of family and friends, our health and a safe place to call home. For that alone we should feel fortunate. The Simple Things Make a Big Difference

My journey with Doctors Care began on January 25, 2012, my first day as a volunteer. I can certainly say that, thus far, it has been an enriching experience and one I will never forget.
I began with the opportunity to work the front desk as a patient greeter. That experience was awesome! Not only was I able to give the patients a warm welcome, but I was able to see how a simple greeting with a smile can make a difference in a person's day.
