Answers to our most popular questions about our
Sliding-Fee-Scale Program.
New Patients
I know I only get two years on your program, but do I have to use it all at once?
No. As long as you communicate with us before any six-month expiration date, you can put your Doctors Care coverage on "pause" until you need us again. At that time you can use whatever is left from your two years.
I'm worried I might make too much money to be eligible for your program. How can I know for sure before taking the time to go through your process?
Patients must be below a specific income level based on family size in order to qualify. The range is broad, but if you feel like you might make/have too much money, you are welcome to call (720) 458-6200 to talk to someone who can give you a general idea of whether or not you financially qualify.
How long does your application process take?
It usually takes two to three weeks.
What's your monthly premium?
Nothing. Since we're not an insurance company and our providers are donating most of the cost of your care, you will not be paying us anything and we do not pay your bills for you. Your responsibility is to pay your assigned percentage payment rate at each appointment with a provider.
Why don't you cover areas like Aurora and Jefferson County?
We follow the geographical boundaries of the Arapahoe-Douglas-Elbert Medical Society, as our founding organization. As they have grown and expanded from being the Arapahoe Medical Society, we have expanded our boundaries with them. For links to resources in other areas, please click here.
I've already been in the hospital. Will you cover that time?
We can backdate up to 90 days from the date of your Financial Intake appointment.
Current Patients
I need a specialist. What should I do?
The provider requesting you to see a specialist should call Doctors Care at (720) 458-6200 to make the referral.
Where can I get my prescriptions filled?
First, check what hospital you're assigned to (it's on your Doctors Care card). Then, check the second page of your Patient Guidelines to see the exact pharmacy you should be using. Keep in mind if you use a different pharmacy than the one you're assigned to, you will be responsible for the full cost.
I want to see a therapist. Is that something you provide?
Yes! Mental health providers are available on-site to provide counseling and/or medication management for your percentage payment. Contact your case manager at (720) 458-6200 to find out how to take advantage of this service.
I need surgery. How much will I have to pay?
That depends. You will receive a separate bill for different parts of the surgery process, such as the hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist, radiologist, etc. If each one is in the Doctors Care network, they will each be adjusted to your percentage rate. Any concerns or questions should be directed to your case manager at (720) 458-6200.
I don't like my Primary Care Physician (PCP). Can I get a new one?
Due to the limited amount of primary care physicians in our network, patients need to see the PCP they are assigned. Remember, the physicians in our network are graciously donating their time and expertise to you. If you have a concern, you should contact your Case Manager to discuss it in depth.
I moved. Can I switch my hospital to something closer?
Once you let us know you’ve moved, we will try to reassign you to the appropriate hospital. You may certainly let us know your preferred hospital. However, we may not be able to accommodate your first choice as we work hard to assign patients to our hospital partners in equal numbers. If you have questions or need to report a move, please call (720) 458-6200.
Where do I go for MRI/CT scans?
Have the provider that wants you to have an MRI or CT scan call (720) 458-6200.
Where do I go for labs, x-rays, or an ultrasound?
These must be performed at your assigned hospital (it's listed on your Doctors Care card). When you visit the hospital, be sure to check in at outpatient registration so that you are only using the hospital-run labs. Keep in mind if you use a different lab than the one you're assigned to, you will be responsible for the full cost.
