Provider Spotlight
Steven Geraghty, MD of Geraghty Family Medicine in Centennial has been a volunteer provider with Doctors Care since 2005. The staff, board, and patients at Doctors Care are thankful for Geraghty Family Medicine’s dedicated service. Here, Dr. Geraghty shares what it means for him to be involved in the Doctors Care network:
What inspired you to become involved with Doctors Care?
I was excited to see an organization help patients when they fall on financially difficult times. I became a doctor to help people through medical problems. Many patients avoid going to the doctor because they don’t have the financial means to get the help they need, especially when it comes to tests and procedures.
What motivates you to support the organization?
Today’s economy makes it more important than ever to be available to our patients in what could be considered non-traditional models of health care provision. I refer patients every week to Doctors Care as I hear about more of them losing their insurance. Financial gain is less important to me than helping people get every medical problem evaluated, no matter how big or small.
How do you see your future collaboration with Doctors Care?
I cannot imagine I will ever stop providing care to Doctors Care patients. Every patient I accept through the program continues to see me after leaving the program. Many have referred friends and neighbors.
What is the most beneficial part of joining the volunteer network?
I enjoy hearing the thankfulness of patients as they come in for an appointment. I also appreciate knowing my patient’s labs are obtained, proper monitoring is achieved, and diagnoses that otherwise may have gone unidentified are determined. It reminds me every time of the reason I went into the field of medicine.
Dr. Geraghty is one of nearly 900 volunteer providers who agree to see Doctors Care patients in their own medical practices for a significantly reduced cost.
